University of Applied Sciences HAS Den Bosch (Dutch: Hogeschool HAS Den Bosch) is the key Dutch training institute and centre of expertise for the fields of agriculture, horticulture, food, nature conservation and environment in the south of the Netherlands. It is located in 's-Hertogenbosch, the regional capital of North Brabant, and accredited by the Dutch Flemish Accreditation Organisation. Furthermore, it is ranked as the top horticulture school in the Netherlands, received a second place in the category of best specialized university of applied sciences,[1] and in the top 20's of all Universities of applied sciences.[2]
HAS Den Bosch is a relatively small, independent University of Applied Sciences, which is especially known for providing personal attention and support as well as professional supervision to its students. In 2009 there were around 1700 students enrolled at HAS Den Bosch, of which 60 are international and exchange students. The total number of staff was 225 in September 2009).[3]
As HAS Den Bosch emphasizes a business-oriented and practical approach to education the university maintains excellent relations with the industry and has established a wide network with important companies and organisations in its fields of expertise.

On 13 October 1947 MLS (middelbare landbouwschool) was opened in Roermond, and followed a year later by the MZS (middelbare landbouwschool). In 1956 the higher horticulture school was opened in Nijmegen, which became part of HAS (hogere agrarische scholen gemeenschap) which formed the KNBTB (Koninklijke Nederlandse Boeren- en Tuindersbond) in Den Bosch in 1962. This was the start of HAS Den Bosch as we know it today.
The university is divided into three departments, offering ten Dutch-taught bachelor programmes, two English-taught Bachelor programmes, two English-taught Master programmes and three English-taught Certificate programmes.
The department of Green Business offers four Dutch and two English Bachelor courses and one English certificate program. Garden & Landscape Management, Urban & Rural Development, Horticulture & Arable Farming, and Landscape Design, are the four Dutch Bachelor programs. Floral Design & Business Management and Horticulture & Business Management are the two English-taught Bachelor programmes and the 1-Year Certificate Floral Design is an English-taught certificate programme.
This department only offers three Dutch Bachelor programs. These are; Food Design & Innovation, Food Technology, and Business Administration & Agribusiness.
This department offers three Dutch Bachelor programs, one English Master course, and a certificate program. Animal Husbandry, Environmental Science, and Applied Biology are the three Dutch Bachelor courses.

The Master programmes of HAS Den Bosch are offered jointly with Writtle College in the United Kingdom where the first three months of the courses take place. Writtle College was established in 1893 and is a partner of the University of Essex, one of the top universities in the United Kingdom. The Master degree that you will obtain is accredited by the University of Essex. Writtle College is situated about three kilometres from Chelmsford, less than 45 minutes from central London and London Stansted, one of London’s biggest airports, which has a direct low-cost airline connection to Eindhoven, the neighbouring city of Den Bosch.
HAS KennisTransfer [5] is a partner of HAS Den Bosch which offers research and consultancy services, tailor-made training programs and courses for business and government organizations in the agribusiness and the food sector. HAS KennisTransfer offers (international) students of HAS Den Bosch to participate in their research projects as part of their graduation projects. Under the supervision of a consultant of HAS KennisTransfer the students can gain first-hand experience in conducting research on a professional level.
Stoas University of Applied Sciences is a teacher training institute that trains students to become professionals in the transfer of knowledge in the agricultural and horticultural sectors. Stoas and the Green Business School of HAS Den Bosch jointly offer the Bachelor programme Floriculture & Floral Design as well as the one-year certificate programme in Floral Design & Marketing.
The Anton Jurgens Institute [6] is a network organization, established by HAS Den Bosch, Wageningen UR and the companies Unilever, VION Food Group, Cargill and Biox Biosciences. Anton Jurgens Institute is A network organisation that closes the gap between the food and heallth industry. A provider of the MBA ‘Business Creation in Food & Health’ and a broker between companies, entrepreneurs and course members to facilitate projects.
